History
These dogs were developed during the 19th century. They were renowned for having the eagerness of a terrier and the sporting abilities and the power of a bulldog. The fact that these dogs are so adaptable made them a firm favourite with many farmers. They were used for protection purposes, to guard and drive livestock and also for companionship.
Characteristics
American Pit Bull Terriers are firmly built, they are of a medium in size and they are also very muscular dogs. Many people also refer to the American Pit Bull Terriers as being great warriors. These dogs show lots of strength and courage, and they are also very supple. American Pit Bull Terriers are remarkably gentle dogs, and they also have a very good character and loving nature.
Temperament
American Pit Bull Terriers are very trustworthy and extremely devoted dogs. These dogs are very loving and clever, and they also have a very good disposition. American Pit Bull Terriers will do best in homes that have older children, and will get along well with other dogs if they have been raised with them. Care
The American Pit Bull Terriers have smooth and short-haired coats which are fairly easy to groom. They should be brushed regularly with a firm hair brush, and only be bathed when it is deemed necessary. They can also be rubbed with a piece chamois to make the coat shiny.
