History
Cocker Spaniels were first recognized in England in the late 1880s. During the same period they were also introduced in America. The Cocker Spaniel is believed to originate from Spanish blood. Cocker Spaniels are beautiful and very intelligent dogs. They commonly make terrific house pets. This breed would be best suited in a home with older and more respectable children.
Characteristics
Cocker Spaniels are clever and very devoted dogs. However, they do require a lively owner, as they are very good-humoured and lively. This energetic breed makes a great family pet, and should not be left outside for a long period of time. Their long hair prevents them from staying cool in scorching weather. This breed is certain to bring plenty of happiness to your life.
Temperament
A delightful and calm mannered creature, the Cocker Spaniel is a dog that enjoys playing. They also have a calm and distinguished manner about them. This is a dog that gets along fine with children - especially when raised with them. They also get on well with other animals and with strangers. The Cocker Spaniel is a friendly and agreeable dog with a happy outlook on life and a responsive attitude. They are extremely clever making him a star at obedience training. The Cocker Spaniel is a dog that will generally be pretty simple to train, and will be fine for the more inexpert dog owner as well as more knowledgeable owners.
Care
The coats of the Cocker Spaniel should be brushed each couple of days in order to keep it in fine condition and every couple of months or so you may need to get the hair clipped. Training
This breed can be rather hard to housebreak, but are otherwise very simple to train. Obedience classes are suggested for this humorous breed. At first bred to be used as a gundog; this breed does remarkably well in obedience if given constant training with a tender hand.
