What Causes Dog Abnormal Brain Development?

This is a very serious in condition for young puppies. The most common of abnormal brain development is called hydrocephalus and unfortunately does not have a cure as yet. This condition will be obvious in the way the puppy is different from the rest of the puppies and generally will not look as active and bright in comparison. Unfortunately most dogs with this illness die at a young age but medication can be given in some circumstances to help stop seizures.

What Your Vet May Say or Do

In the circumstances of this condition the vet will diagnose the dog by looking at the dog's age, skull shape, and the symptoms above. In most cases the symptoms will be easily recognised by a professional but will get confirmed by x-rays and brain scans.

From this point the vet may use Phenobarbitone tablets if the owner wishes to relax the brain cells so they will not cause as many seizures if this is a symptom your dog is having. Even with this prescription your dogs' life may be limited and uncertain.
