Simple tips on preventing your dog from barking.

Stop Dog Barking

Your dogs barking can be a serious pain with neighbours at night and a general nuisance in the daytime, most neighbours won't want to put up with your dogs non-stop loud barking no more than you will within your house day in day out.

So why do they bark anyway? Well there are many reasons your dog could be barking but the main reasons for this are boredom and attention.

Your dog may have been used to lots of attention growing up and they to know how they get it, and that way is through barking. If they want to come in the house they bark and you let them in, if they want to go back out they bark and you let them out. You'll normally find that most things your dog wants they get through barking weather it be food, drink, walk, coming in or out, they get what they want using barking. So why would they use any other method when you leave them to get into your bed or go out for a while?

The other reason is boredom, when you go out or to bed they get bored of being alone with nothing to do and no one to play with so they bark for something to do.

The way to stop barking is to start off by not paying attention to when your dog barks, if they bark at you for anything ignore it. Distract your dog with an unfamiliar noise or anything to keep your dog occupied from barking for a while, then let them in or feed them ect. Never give in or pay attention to them when they bark. You need to teach your dog that this is not the way to get attention.

If your dog is barking out of boredom try giving them something to do like a toy to chew or play with, when you go out don't make a big fuss that you're leaving just quietly open the door and go without paying any attention to your dog. This makes your dog think that its not a big deal that you've gone and there is no reason to bark, also try leaving the television on to keep your dog occupied and interested.

Your dog is always likely to bark from time to time because that's what dogs do, the same as we speak and cats meow, but if you follow these guidelines here you'll see your dogs barking habit get better and better until you hardly notice it at all.
