help! i have a problem with my dog

Can somebody please help me, my dog has developed behavior problems, every time we light the wood burning fire he shakes, and pants and runs off for hours at a time, this has only just began and he has been quite happy with the fire all winter. in the spring he ran off alot and we thought a farmer might off popped a gun at him, but since then we have walked past people firing air rifles and he has been fine. we would love to cure him of his fears but can't get into his head. we have moved to rural france in case you are wondering about the farmers etc.
