showing symptoms of cystitis

hi there!

My 8 year old spayed Dobe bitch has started showing signs of cystitis-trying to pee frequently but only managing to do a few drops- during the night and this morning. She is obviously uncomfortable but fine in every other respect. I would normally not hesitate to take her to the vet in these circumstances, but with 8 inches of snow where we are we can't get out of the house by car and it is a 2 mile walk to the surgery. I don't mind doing the walk if I thought she would be comfortable enough to do it.

Does anyone have any suggestions of help I can give her at home please? I am already ensuring that she is drinking plenty of fluids to flush her system through but I wondered if anyone has any ideas of natural medicines that may help?

I think it's a bit too risky to diagnose cystitis in your dog online.

Have you tried calling your vet to have a phone consult and then to decide the way forward.

I would do that. Good luck, hope she's feeling better?

I contacted my vet soon after posting my question and had a chat with a very helpful nurse. By the following day my Dobe was fine.... flushing her system through with water obviously helped whatever was going on, not sure it was as serious as cystitis after all!
