Sad Worried! Excess Drinking and Urination!

Hi, I have a 16 year old Yorkie bitch who has been drinking and urinationg all over the house for the past 3 weeks. She even wets the bed every night. She had major surgery for cancer at the beginning of the year and has recovered amazingly and has the energy she had when she was a pup. I'm just really worried about taking her to the vet just in case they advise to have her put to sleep as she is so old. Can anyone help?

I think maybe the best thing would be to take her to the vet.

It's going to be a really hard i know, but the vet will give you honest advice on whats best for your dog. I'm sure you don't want her to suffer if it can be helped either.

At the end of the day the vet will tell you whats what and you can make the end decision. There might well be a great way to help you dog with this problem, but you wont know without asking. Good luck and i hope everythign goes well.

Hi Jenna_Paz and welcome to the forum!

You should def take her to the vet i think. It might not be as bad as you think, if she's been spayed then it could just be a lack of hormones in her body that make her wee uncontrollably (its not uncommon at all).

If you take her to the vet they will probably take a urine sample and can see if there's any infections or stones in the bladder, both are easily mended in most cases. They will check everything over and if its hormone related then hormone supplements will probably be given for the rest of her life and will make the problem go away. They arn't too expensive either.

hope all goes well for you.

The vet is your only option as it sounds like a Diabetic response to me. The vet can give you tablets or injections for it, just like humans take.
You will need to fast her and take the first urine sample to the vet with you.

I agree take her to the vets, they know best and will want the best for your dog as well.

Default Urinating

My 12 year old bitch went through a period where she was constantly wetting herself. This occurred mainly when she was a sleep and on waking there would be a wet patch.
She didn't realise she had done anything but on waking would realise and be upset. I assumed a weak bladder/incontinence. But she stopped and I now wonder if it was simply a bladder infection or something.
A sample taken to the vet could answer that question
