Default Skin Infection

Hi,

I've just found out that Ramsey's (my 4 year old lab) skin infection is back yet again - this is the third time.

I know it doesn’t sound serious but I am gobsmacked because I think this is the worst one he's had. He's been obsessively licking himself and itching. So I examined him and found quite a lot of goey wounds as well as flakes. Also dry skin around the back of his elbows and near his genitals.

I definitely think he's got an allergy. I am convinced if he goes back onto antibiotics and prescribed shampoo; it will come back eventually once it's cleared up just like last time.

So he will probably need an allergy test and his skin tested. But it will cost over £300 or more We don't have that money at all at the moment and to make it worse I'm still looking for a job -I feel like a s**t owner at the moment.

We've always made sure they have their needs first and they are insured.

I have just bathed him with his prescribed shampoo and dried him thoroughly - seems better already but will keep an eye on him.

I am hoping I can register him on PDSA for now and take him to PDSA vets. Until I get a job I will take him to our normal vets - am I allowed to do that?

If that doesn't work out I will apply for a credit card. Then until I get a job I can pay it back.

Have any of your dog(s) experienced skin infection before? If so how was it and how long were the treatments and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

Also do any of you use PDSA?

I know you are probably thinking, I am a s**t owner and why on earth have I got him if I can't provide him financially - I can but not £300 and this is only for temporary since we don't have a job at the moment. I don't want to cause a debate but to hear your advice. I am doing everything I can and making sure they're happy. I've always put them first. I am not giving up.
I am genuinely gutted not regarding money at all, as like I said I am willing to do absolutely anything. But I am gutted he's got it yet again as it's not fair and he doesn't deserve it especially that he's only 4 and why just why him and why now.

Hope you can put my mind to rest,
Thank-you
Lessie

Sorry to hear of your situation. I'm not sure about the vets, but one of my dogs had bad skin and we just kept using the shampoo and even baby shampoo and it gradually improved over time. I hope everything works out for you and your dog.

Default Skin problem

Hi!

I understand that 300 bucks is a lot of money, sorry that you had to go through this. A friend of mine had a lot of problems with his dog skin, from loosing hair to fleas. He now bought a product through this link: Dog skin Solution (Sorry, system doesn't allow me to send a link, email m *email removed* or alternatively google it). It is about 18 dollars or so. It gives guide to home remedies, It seem to have worked for his situation.

All the best.
