Default Barking when people go past window.

Mac my Westie who is 2 years old barks and generally goes mad when people walk past window or even if he can hear things from outside is there anything i can do to stop this?

hi,
This i got from a book, not sure how it will work.
When Mac barks, say thankyou in a calm tone and stroke the back of his neck. Pretend to look what the noise is as well. This shows pack dominance.

Where on earth did you read that?! Sounds like a snippet from Jan Fennel to me.

This will do nothing but reinforce the dog's behaviour! It's rewarding the behaviour...surely you can see that?

In what way does it show 'pack dominance'?

is there anything you could suggest nick I could try both see what one works, i will be honest since putting the post on here Mac hasn't gone to the window to bark and yes people have been going past being loud etc, it's like he is phsic.
