Default Doggy doorbell - advice please!

Hi all I am new to this forum but am trying to find a solution to a problem behaviour which is driving me mad. My 7mth old Springer Spaniel has taught himself that jumping up and pawing at the glass door from the garden to the kitchen is the best way to get my attention that he wants to come in. Apart from making my door filthy :-( it also sounds like a jackhammer has landed in the kitchen, which ricochets through the house.

Obviously the reason this jumping up has been reinforced is because it works - even if I am upstairs I hear the sound and come down and let him straight in - bingo from Merlins point of view!

So my idea is to install a wireless doorbell - I know that may sound a bit mad but I would rather he 'rang' for my attention that pounded my door out of it's frame. My problem is that all the door bells I have found have a very small push area that i am not sure he could 'get'. I would like to try and find a large, easy push one he could do with his nose or paw (I don't mind where I instal it. )

If anyone has any ideas where to find something that would work I would be very grateful to hear them. Or if you have another idea to get over the problem then by all means let me know, I do have a tendency to overcomplicate things sometimes so may have missed something obvious (and no there isn't already a door bell in the garden ;-))

Thanks all
Nina

Hi boatbabe and welcome to the forum! There seems to be a few like your looking for on amazon in the link below...

dog doorbell

There seems to be mixed reviews there though about that perticular product. I just used the search bar to look for 'pet doorbells' and a load came up, although some of them do seem a little expensive maybe.

Someone also said they 'hung 2 big jingle bells on a sturdy ribbon by the door' but i dont think thats going to solve your dirty door problem.

Hope it helps!

Haha this is such a funny idea! I never though about a doorbell for dogs. I don't think my dog would have the patience of pressing the button and waiting to be let in without barking. My dog just barks to be let in and we can hear him wherever we are in the house!
