Default Control recent barking and puppy toileting!

We have a 5 year old bitch labrador who is well behaved, although used to whine if left alone, we have had a border collie pup (now 13 weeeks) for 4 weeks who is picking things up quickly.

Our lab now barks every morning from 6 onwards while puppy sleeps, how do we stop this?

Our puppy knows to go to toilet on the grass in garden, but overnight goes to the toilet all around our kitchen, when will this stop and what can we do?

Thanks! Gems

Hi Gems,
Try and find and remove the cause. Could be as simple as wanting to go out to the toilet.
My dog started barking early this morning for the first time. It was barking at a cat that was sitting on the fence outside the window. From now on the blind will be drawn, problem solved.

Hi

A few thoughts.

Introduce the puppy to a crate.

Can you separate the two dogs at night? The pup may be disturbing the older dog in some way?

Assuming this has never happened before with your older lab if placed apart you could try a shaker bottle to interrupt the barking, and do not appear yourself or say anything.

That's not funny at 6am! Dogs can sleep during the day...you need to work.

HTH a little.

Nick
