Question Constant Barking

Hi,

I have relatively behavied dogs. They are very obeident, friendly with other dogs and people. I just have one concern with them, Their constant barking. They only bark in the house or garden.

They will all bark together, at a pin dropping, someone walking past, A door banging, Microwave going ping!!

Our neighbours have never complained has of yet out of the 5 years of living here and having the dogs. But i'd understand if they did.

Any advice how i can stop them barking at everything, Some times one of them will bark, But then they will all join in, its always seem to be the 1 dog that starts them off. Even if he is sleepin he will jump to attention and bark, Then the rest will follow him.

Any advice on how to control this?

Thankyou

How many dogs do you have?

What ages are they?

Any health issues?

How long are they left each day?

How much exercise do they get?

What are the lottery numbers?

Thanks.

Fishes swim, birds fly, dogs bark! Well, they shouldn't be doing so all the time, but when one goes off, it normally sets the rest off (a la 101 Dalmatians as they were passing the message on!). Pick out the dog which is initiating the barking, then focus on working on stopping the barking. Nick is right in asking all the questions he did (especially the lottery numbers - very useful!) as there might be an underlying cause for the barking. If your dog(s) has(have) been given the all clear by your vet, excellent!

Do clicker training with your barking initiator by click & treat-ing every time the barking subsides/your dog goes quiet. As your dog is swallowing the treat, click&treat again. Your goal is to eventually be able to cue barking ('speak') and cue being quiet. Good luck!

Amazing how folk just don't answer in reply isn't it?

I sometimes wonder what goes on to happen for the dog.

Nick

Hey dude, looks like the right consensus is here, you need to input more information.

I guess though that there are many reasons for your dogs barking, one that springs to mind is separation anxiety.
