Default Lead Training Problem

Hi everyone, this is a bit of a long story. We have a great 17 month old border collie, Rusty, who is taking a long time to train to walk on a loose lead. We are going to classes and it is certainly helping. However, there are two issues emerging. He has got to the point now where he generally behaves very well for me on a lead, but not for my husband. So, after hearing yet another horror story about his pulling hubby all over the place, I took them both out to "show hubby how I do it". Pah! Rusty behaved atrociously. I couldn't believe the difference. He was like a dog possessed.

I was so astounded that when we got home I decided to do another short walk, this time on my own. Guess what? Rusty was a different dog. He didn't pull once, he didn't lurch, he was just as good (if not better) as I had told hubby he could be.

So, I got hubby back outside and handed Rusty over to him, and yes, he behaved perfectly well for him too.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me why? I will have a chat to our dog trainer about it too, but as much advice as I can get is needed. What on earth is going on our lovely dog's head?

Thanks,

Rusty's (exasperated) Mum

Despite working daily with dogs and people, many questions go unanswered.

She may see you as the main trainer/leader hence better behaviour?

Read acouple of articles that may help you here:

Doorways. Keeping it calm.

Lead Pulling!

Hope they help you?

Best wishes,

Nick
