Default My dog has started to dirty and wee when we go out

Hi
I have a 5 year old male border collie healthy and fit and gets walked everyday.
He is quite attention seeking in the house but when he goes out he enjoys his own company.
He is very well trained and we get compliments on how obedient he is, BUT he has begun to 'dirty' and wee at night (slept in utility room) so we bought a crate and at night he is put in crate.
Now he has started to mess in the evening if he isn't allowed in the same room as us (this may happen if he is wet or dirty or we have friends around).
This is our 3rd collie so we are use to the breed.
Can anyone give use advice on what to do.

Hmmm tricky when not being able to see him for myself.

Anyway, a few thoughts. Deal with attention seeking if I were you, as this may be separation related?
As I tell my clients, plenty of affection, but on your terms, when you're ready. IGNORE all attention based interactions...it does not serve the dog very well and can create a 'negative loop' which is then hard to break.

Use the crate more when the dog should be on a bed relaxing if out of your site. As long as the dog is being given adequate exercise, you can use the crate more (people become guilty or reluctant, but if the dog is ready to relax then crate it for now).

Did the soiling stop at nights from the crate's use?

Nick
