Default help! Dog Wont Sleep in Kitchen

Hi my 1 year old chiuahua is driving me mad but its been all my own fault! Toby was allowed to sleep in my bed when i first got him, however its come to a point were its not working so I tried to make him sleep in the kitchen. He barks all night and this has been going on for 10 days now. When he stays at my mums he sleeps in the kitchen without any fuss. Any advice cause im struggling to stay awake during the day now!! its like having a new born baby! thanks Rebecca

Yikes that sounds awful .....

how about weaning him off the bed i.e. 1/2 hr in with you then when he is dosey move him into kitchen with lots of comfort, toy, one of your tops / socks etc...then be very firm with him when he barks...

how about a diff room?? new start ....

dont relent or he will rule the house.. we have a jack russel and she would take over easily its the first time in life I have understood fully the term "give an inch and they'll take a mile"

let me know how it goes

Dog Sleeping in Kitchen

One step at a time.
Buy a small crate, one that fits his size. Put his rug and one of your old teeshirts that you have worn but not washed.
Put the crate next to your bed and cover with a light sheet.
That first night he will whinge. Every time he does, say SHHHHHHHH and tap the box but do not remove the cover.
When he is sleeping in the crate you can move it nearer the door. The crate has now become a refuge and a safe place to sleep.
Over a month you can move the crate to the kitchen if you want or you can leave it in the bedroom as the dog isn't on the bed anymore.
Dogs need a den to sleep in, a small dog in a huge open area is very stressed, especially as he has been sleeping in the safe den (your bed) with his pack leader. Expecting him to just shrug and sleep in the kitchen when your safe in the den isn't realistic. He sleeps in your mothers kitchen as she isn't his pack leader.

Regards

Sally
