hi everbody
i have an 9 month old collie colin i love him to bits hes extremely intelligant by the time he was 11 weeks old he could sit, roll over, lay down, give 5 with both paws and lots more the only problem i have with him is that soon as he sees me putting my shoes on he'll cry and when he sees me getting his lead out he'll actually scream and scream soon as i open the door to get out he screams and pulls until we get to the end of the road i dont know wether this is excitment or what hes walked 3 times daily for atleast an hour each time ive noticed also when we go out with my mum or my sister with their dogs he'll scream until we actually get into park or were ever were going.if any ones got any tips on stopping this i would be very gratfull ive tried all types of harness thats fitted around the face, a harness round the body and nothing helps a local vet told me to put a choker on him but there is no way in the world id like to put him through that an i also thaught they were actually illegal. xxxxxxxxxx sorry i also ment to say he was castrated 2 weeks ago and since then he has started viciously humping me and no one else he just comes up to me grabs me and thats it i cant get him off me he did thius this the odd time before but now he bites whilst hes doing it i dont know wether the 2 issues would be linked Last edited by holly; 06-16-2010 at 11:54 AM.. Hi and sorry for the delay. Your dog is clearly over excited re the doorways and leaving the house.
As always in an ideal world I would show you all of this myself and spend a fair bit of time addressing slowing things down and showing the dog that calm behaviour results in progress and excitable behaviour results in stopping and waiting. Please follow these notes to the letter: Doorways. Keeping it calm. No need for any special harness or leads, just good ol fashioned broad collar and lead will be fine. Ensure the diet is clean and free from additives, and consider Scullcap & Valerian for a calming remedy. Dorwest I am unhappy with your description of the biting and humping you! This sounds quite dominant and tinged with aggressive behaviour towards you. Place a house lead on him and be able to take that lead and attach him to a secure point each and every time he does this. You need to stop that immediately. Yes, the two are probably connected...when does he start to hump...when you get ready to go out maybe? Deal with both in a calm but orderly manner and you should see some progress. Best wishes, and update me please. Nick |
