Default help and advice needed

hi there i am in need of advice and guidance on my staffordshire bull terrier Olli.
I bought olli last year april/may time from previous owners i dont know what sort of background she comes from but the previous owners showed me and told me that she had a problem with doors(ie Main door to the house) when ever somone is at the door Knocks or is outside the door she attacks it. growling snarling and biting the letter box(which now has teeth marks in it from the amount of times she has attacked it.
She has gradually got worse over the year i have had her i tried getting a door bell to solve the problem but now she even associates that with someone being at the door, she is now that obsessed with people coming to my door that if she hears someone come through the gate to my (shared) yard she flies at the door.
When the post man comes it is the same, but now i am really concerned as my mum was here on saturday morning and left the door of the house open (with it being warm) not thinkin that the post man was due to come we was all sat in the living room we heard the gate go olli flew out as she heard this and the postman shouted "postman" olli got to him before me and she must have startled him and he put his foot up to protect himself in which she must have seen as a threat and attacked his foot 3 times luckily he had big Dr Martin boots on :weep i couldnt appologise enough to him and i was disraught. She is a good dog in general but i need to somehow sort this problem.

I dont want to have to get rid of her or for something bad to happen to anyone or her to have to be put to sleep

I was thinkin about getting private trainer in to try and help me with my problem and have seen one with a set rate of £40 an hour. But would like to see what advice people can give me.

Sorry for the essay and if there is anything that anyone wants to ask me please do so and i will answer anything that people ask me.

Thank You in advance
Jaqui

Your dog's issue is remarkably similar to this thread at Pet Forums Community petforums co uk dog-training-behaviour/111551-very-concerned-o.html titled "Very Concerned (" if it's not clear alrady, you really need to engage a good dog behavourist. I can't post link to that thread, because of the url restriction on this forum.

That's a perfectly sensible rate and I encourage you to get help one to one for this.

You could spend a year in forums and get no further on with this type of advanced behaviour. You'll rarely find free advice that will resolve this more advanced behaviour.

Aggression to people is serious business, and could get you and your dog in seriously hot water.

Good luck in your efforts.

Nick
