Unhappy Sad looking pouch

hi
my wife and i got a small Pom from a rescue centre a few weeks ago. we were given no history appart from she was abused and used for breeding.
we think she is about 4 years old and she is ova weight and lifts her back leg up like its saw.
we took he to the pdsa as soon as we could, they gave us two week of antibiotics which finished yesterday. with no visable change. we do have another app for the new year with the PDSA

the problem is is that she just stays in the corner of the room with her tail down and her ears pricked back. she only gets up for feeding time, tail wagging and looking abit happier. once shes finnished she goes back to her bed looking really sad again.
she wont "come" when called, she wont even walk when taken out.
she does use her back leg in the garden. so i know she can walk ok. the PDSA said she has a week knee tho.
also she sometimes fouls on the floor over night even tho i take her for a loo b4 i go to bed.
1 more thing. the rescue centre said they gave her Science plan dry food. so thats what we got. She wouldn't touch it, she starved the first couple of days we had her i decided to try another dry food which she turned her nose up at so now we mix dry with wet which she eats but she sifts through and leaves almost all of the dry food in the bowl.

i dont know alot about dog psychology and training so any help in getting her to feel at home and get happy and go for walks would be much appreciated.

many thanks
steve
i can try and give more details if u wish.

Hi,
I'm not an expert and can only help from the experiences i've had with dogs.

My older dog Ruby was mistreated and we got him as a rescue dog (that was 10 years ago). The first thing i would suggest is talk to your vet about the problems to make sure they haven't missed any underlying issues.

I would also say that you haven't had her for long and if she has been mistreated then it may take her a while to trust you, be patient with her. It could help if you or your wife could go over to her and sit with her, play with her and give her strokes and cuddles so that she knows she can enjoy herself as maybe in her old home she wasn't aloud to do anything but sit in a corner.

What is she like with other dogs? Because if she is good with them and you know someone else with a dog it might be a good idea to go on walks together, it might make her feel more comfitable. She may not of been taken on many walk and probably doesn't know the come command.

With food, if she enjoys eating canned meat then do as you are doing and feed her that with dry dog food. She might just prefer wet food.

Hope i have helped

give her lots of attention and reassurence, also follow the advise of princess. she will most probably need a while to adjust and get used to being loved which she may not of had before.
