Hi all,
Me and my partner have been getting a puppy, he's a Dogue De Bordeaux x American Bulldog. Very cute and mischevious! We christened him Frank! I've attached a little pic of him. We bought those puppy training pads and they were working and then putting him outside for his pee's and poo's which he seemed to get the hang of and things were going well but in the last couple of days he seems to have forgotten everything. He's doing his business on the carpet rather than the pads and when we put him outside and encourage him to go he doesnt he waits until hes back inside to relieve himself which is a little fustrating after he was doing so well. I realise hes only 8 weeks and there is going to be accidents but wondered if anyone could offer any advise as this is our first puppy and we love him dearly and want to do things right by him. Thanks |

Hi and sorry for the delay.
As you say he is so young still. How are things now? This is why I avoid the use of puppy pads as it can confuse the dog as to where it is that you want him to go. Place an emphasis on hourly (or longer if he can go longer) trips to the garden with you, so that you are there to immediately reward his good actions. I also place my pups on a lead when I take them out to keep 'em focussed and to not wander off! HTH, Nick

Im having the same problem as well. I have 2 dogs, one is 7 months old and one is 11 weeks olds. My 7 month year old, Stanly does not have a potty training problem, thank god but, my 11 week old Timi does. Normally, I would not really mind, he's still really small but, it is getting harder to clean up after him when he has accidents on the floor and carpet. One time when I had guests over, Timi managed to do his business right beside a lady's bag which was on the carpet, It was really bad and I felt really embarrassed. The pads don't seem to help, what can I do

Very young dogs require a high level of vigilance to ensure you can avoid these accidents. Make an effort to get out every hour for a toilet break allowing you to start a routine demonstrating to your dog what it is you do want!
