Hi everyone
I'm a newbie here. My name is Ria and I have Sid the staffie (will be 3 in July) and Beau the jack x chihuahua (8 weeks). Now that Beau has joined our family I really need to crack down on Sid's pulling, I know I should have got on to it sooner but too late for regrets now. I use a Halti with Sid but it doesn't make much difference, other than I have that little bit more control, he still pulls like a steam train. I usually walk with a buggy (a tandem one so quite long) and I'm sure Sid is constantly in competition with it to be up front, which obviously doesn't help the situation. Can anyone help me deal with this situation? I'd love to be able to calmly walk down the street with him instead of battling to keep control. Thank you ![]() |

Hallo There,
I am new myself but I have had the same experience with 2 rescue dogs and cured them within days. I use the dog borstal method of having the dog on a long lead and when he pulls just turn round and walk in the opposite direction. I did this thirteen times walking down one road !!! I looked bonkers but it worked. The dog gives up pulling and decides its easier if they stay by your side. I know its difficult if you have children or multiple dogs but try and enlist some help so that you can concentrate on the problem dog. Having said all that I have still got a problem with my whining Schnauzer so I am not that much of an expert ! Good luck Triss |

We did this by holding a piece of cheese close to our hip so he would stay back, so he was obviously attracted to the cheese. If he walked nicely in a straight line and close to us, we'd let him eat the cheese! Worked well for us and he's now so good at taking out on the lead!
