Pissed Off Pee In the house?

Around 6 months ago, I got a miniature jack russell from an ill lady who spoilt him ALOT (Male) he is not neutured and I am in the process of gettting this done but there is a waiting list for apparently months. But anyway He wont stop peeing into the house. He does do his buisness outside and we do say Toliet to him when hes outside and he does do, when he has done outside he gets lots of praise and encouragement, but this isnt stopping him doing indoors we have tried everything, dog sprays, bleaching, vinigar!! nothing is working he's still peeing in the house in the same places! i've been told its territorial but is it? when we see pee we bring him to the spot and say no, we have shoved his nose in it, we have smacked him, we've even just ignored him. Every time he sees us clearing it up he always starts growling and trying to get close to us. Its really getting us all mad! we're at our witts end and on the verge of bringing him back to his previous home.....Has anybody ever experienced anything like this? please any help would be greatly apriciated thankyou!

Hi. Castration may help yes. Are you getting it done on PDSA hence the delay?

Ok, despite your frustration you need to stop giving him a telling off each time he does it. ONLY if you catch him in the act can you have an impact on such behaviour. Giving harsh 'no's' and rubbing nose in it and smacking him are all a waste of time (as you're discovering) and can harm the relationship you have with him (as you're discovering hence the growling now). If you find an accident put him away and clean it up.

I expect he did this in his last home and was not trained adequately before you had him.

I advise a few things to help.

1) Castration

2) Introduce and use a crate when you can't supervise him. A crate can be used for modest spells of time to ensure he is unable to practice this behaviour in the house. Ensure he is not left in crate more than 2 hrs at a time or he'll go in there too.

3) Use a commercial urine removal spray as it kills the ammonia smell. Google 'Urine off!'

4) Hourly trips to the garden to allow regular retraining opportunities to go outside. Praise and reward as you have been doing.

Hth,

Nick
