Question Possession aggression and seek?

Hi! new to this site

My 9 month old pup was never socialised with other dogs for the first 5 months before i rescued him so never learnt bite inhibition. Because of this I don't play any rough games such as tug of war or wrestle with him or anything that involves him biting!

I like to hide treats from him and get him to sniff them out to keep him mentally stimulated but he has started to get possession aggression with stuff he finds/steals mainly being food. Could teaching him to seek out stuff be a bad game to play because of his developing aggression?

Please give me your opinion on this! and if anyone knows of any other games I could play with him please share! as this is the only game I do play other then touching up on his basic obedience!

Thanks guys!

Maybe try searching out toys rather than food? A small ball in a sock with a zip tie to keep it in place can be good.

He needs to have the hold AND give in place to understand the rules to the game.

This might help: Dog Training. The Hold and Give exercise. - YouTube

Cheers.

You should also try to play hide and seek with your dog. Put your dog on a sit or down wait. Then hide. When you are ready call him. Watch out they sometimes peek. This is good for teaching the dog to wait until called as well as fun for you and your dog. :good
