Poop Muzzles

Hey,
What does everyone think of muzzles for training dogs.
I am normally against them as i think they look cruel. But Tash can be quite naughty on walks, she barks at every dog we see an although she is such a lovely dog and so soft natured, on walks she looks like a horrible dog, barking at other dogs, people try to avoid walking past us, and thats not what i want
My partner is thinking of getting a muzzle for her, just for walks but i'm not to sure, i think they look horrid and it will make Tash look like shes naughty all the time.

Safety first.

If you think that a muzzle is necessary for the safety of others then this is your primary concern.

In what way is that cruel? They don't look great no, but it will keep things safe if needed. If she is on the lead and under reasonable control (hey, she's smaller than a rottie for example!) then a muzzle may not be required?

Get a book and follow it Princess. 'Click to Calm' could work well if you fancy somne clicker fun and she is bright.

HTH.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Its not really for safety as she doesn't bite, its just her barking and it so embarassing! She LOOKS nasty and people avoid walking past us, even though she is so so soft and just wants to play.
I feel cruel with her wearing one because it looks horrid! We've got her one and she is ok with it, looks all stubborn when it on though, as she isn't to keen. Makes us laugh as she does look a little silly

Yo Princess Wassup?

Can you tell I'm on a break next week and feeling 'up'?

Ok. I see no reson why a muzzle is required then! A muzzle will not stop the behaviour (though it can help as a calming measure-may see).

If it were the same behaviour with a Rottie for example, I would suggest a muzzle, but the physics alone should save you the use of one.

She sounds under-socialised...does that figure?

Hey,
Princess chewed it up so now we can't use it. I think its just a case of training her and not feeling so embarassed!
She has come from a rescue home and the owner before us didn't walk her, poor little love.

try when she does it to just stop and saying no to try discourage the noise, if she doesn't bite don't use a muzzy it would serve no use and will make her upset, just beware when she does it that it doesn't get another dog rield up and the other dog goes for her. if you see what i mean

Dog

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
We have been using the muzzle for a while now and it seems to calm her down on walks, and showing it to her has the desired effect. Just hope now that she'll learn without the muzzle.
