Default border collie night messing and constant attention seeking

hello any help greatly recieved, our Border Collie is 5 years old he has been a member of our family since he was 8 weeks old , in all that time he has nearly always messed at night in the kitchen and in the early days in his crate, he has always been walked and excercised a minimum of 3 times a day last walk approx 10.30pm he eats quality food not over required amount , during the day he demands constant attention paw on lap , head in lap etc , we would love any advice on training method to prevent this happening

Hi,

Have you made any progress with your dog?

Has he had a vet check for any urinary infections?

Does he eat / drink late at night?

Collies do attention seek - A LOT but you can usually train a 'go settle' command or give them something good which keeps them occupied (kongs stuffed with frozen dog food are great for that!)

Also, it could be him seeking reassurance - maybe some general obedience training could help him feel more confident? Difficult to know full circumstances without seeing him though.

You say a good quality food - what exactly do you feed?

Also, your dog is exercised 3 times a day - what kind of exercise do you do and for how long? On lead? Off lead?

Does your dog get any kind of mental stimulation - finding a favorite toy that has been hidden etc? Feeding from an activity ball, kong?

x
