Question Introducing a kitten to an older dog

Hi All,

We've just re-homed a kitten and are trying to introduce her to our Jack Russell cross. He's quite used to cats and has been living with a cat for the last 10 years until she died last month. The kitten has come from a home with dogs and is relaxed around dogs.

Whenever put the kitten and dog together, the dog keeps roughly nuzzling her and seems to be chewing her fur. The kitten makes no effort to get away from this and rolls onto her back while he continues. After a few minutes he's starts getting a little too rough and we separate them before one gets hurt.

We thought this might just be the dog trying to get his scent onto her, but this has been continuing for the last couple of weeks and he's showing no signs of stopping!

If anyone has any advice or can explain exactly what the dog is trying to do, it will be greatly received.

Thanks.
