Qq Best foods?

Hi,
As i've said, i've got three dogs, one of them is with my partner. With her being new, we are trying to decide the best food to give her. For my other two, i use Bakers biscuits and Pedigree meat because i think they are the best brands although they are also the most expensive to buy! Pedigre can also be very rich for some dogs, but my two seem to be fine on it.
I wanted to know what everyone else uses and why (disadvantages as well).

Sorry to tell you this, but Bakers is my least favoured brand on the market.
By bringing dogs off this brand (Pedigree is not much better either) I often see and hear of an improvement in behaviour and health.

Stop the Bakers! Look at the ingredients and research them. Colouring, flavouring, artificial additives and poor meat quality and high levels of cheap fillers abound in these brands.

My own border terrier is on Burns. I add a little fresh veg and fruit to it and she is still well keen.

My preferred brands are (in no particular order):

Burns
J.W.
Nature Diet
Natures Menu
Arden Grange
BARF diet could be researched also.
Nutro

What suits one dog may not suit another, so try and get some samples from a helpful shop.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply . Are you from the UK? I've never heard of any of those brands and wondering if its because they are not sold in england.
We chose chappie and bakers for Tash, she seems to like them and is eating her biscuits now.
The other two, Ruby and Princess still eat Pedigree and Bakers as its what they have always been on, was recommended by a vet we now and i guess we are lucky that they don't have behavioural problems.

Yes I'm in the UK

Bewdley Worcestershire.

All of those brands are reasonably easy to get hold of. Do a Google to find each web site, and then your local suppliers.

You're lucky then if your dogs are doing ok on it, but do bare in mind it's a low quality feed. Your vet is rather miss-guided if advising Bakers and Pedigree!

Chappie is quite cheap and not at all bad, but better for a recuperating dog rather than long term.

HTH.

Nick

Thanks We generally buy from our supermarket so thats probably why i'm only used to the name brands.
Have you got any links about pedigree and bakers? I'm not doubting you at all, I just want the best for my babies and i've always been told Pedigree was the best a dog could get, it was the vet that told us sometimes Pedigree can be to rich for pups. And i can't find anything on the net myself about Pedigree not being good, infact i'm reading the opposite!

Sorry for the delay.

Most of the foods in supermarkets are there for a good reason...they're cheap and made in bulk. As a result the price reflects the low quality of the ingredients. Cheap meat and cereal fillers being the main ingredients...yuk.

Seriously though, if someone told you Pedigree was the best you could get, they were pulling your leg or misinformed.

I have no links to offer sorry. The best thing for you to do is to become acquainted with ingredient words and what they mean. The word 'derivatives' is common in most supermarket foods, and this is a good place to start. A bit of Googling about will get you on track, and feel free to post back with any further questions.

A good course I did on nutrition was with Sheila Harper Canine Education with Sally Askew. Very good indeed.

HTH,

Nick

I am currently researching which food to feed my new collie, i dont want anything that could make her hyper, she's on Arden Grange food at the minute which seems good, but am considering the James Wellbeloved, very natural ingredients by the looks of it

Dog

Hi again.
Welcome to the forums by the way.
I think from what Nick has been saying, both of them are good.
