Default Bringing your new puppy home

Hi,

I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself and my beloved Cocker Spaniels, Jimi and Eddie. Jimi is four and Eddie is nearly two.

When we got Jimi at four months we had the usual chewing and eating of shoes etc.. but thats to be expected with a new puppy. Apart from that he was perfect, so eager to learn and easy to train a true diamond dog!

On the other hand Eddie was a nightmare! We took Eddie on from my sister at six months old as he was showing signs of possessiveness and aggression around her two young children.

Eddie is a beautiful looking dog but we have had so many problems training him. He just doesn't have the same eagerness to please as Jimi, in fact he actually seems to enjoy disobeying us, he is a cheeky little monkey! We have battled with separation anxiety, possiveness and an inability to be house trained.

Well Eddie is now nearly two years old and he has come a long way with lots of patience and love but most of all discipline.

My partner Alex actually wrote a squidoo lense on bringing your puppy home recently to try and help other people who my be in this situation.

Our puppy was great when we brought him home and he's never chewed any of our furniture, but oddly enough he HAS chewed the garden patio furniture! Very strange indeed.

He didn't take too long to toilet train either, but when we got him he had a bad stomach problem and left very large piles of poo for us every day in the house

Hello,

We have two pups - a 11 week old border collie and a 23 week old JRT. Our JRT was a right little so and so when we first got him - anixety issues everything. We even paid a trainer from the company bark busters to come in to our home and help. We then got our second pup - the border collie, they both settled well at night and when left alone but then came the chewing and lots of unwanted accidents. We then tried crate training and it really did change the p[ups - for the better! We know leave them in their 'den' whilst we are out without fear of chewing. It also helped a lot with our toilet training as they have learnt to control their blader until we get home as they do not want to soil where they sleep (unless dogs have a mental illness this will not happen - even to the hardest to train dogs.).

Good luck with your boys.

Dogs have personalities just like humans. Some are docile, some defiant, some are good learners, and some are more playful and fun loving. So no two dogs can be handled or trained in the same way.
