Default Hi!

Hi all! my name is Becki I work at a vets as a receptionist and have just adopted an unwanted dog who atm is called Boris.(i might be changing his name) He is a gorgeous staffyXboxer, 3 years old, a kind of diesel colour and white. He is castrated but unfortunately slightly deaf-reason unknown.
The reason he is unwanted is as follows:

he was raised in a 'druggy' household, they couldnt look after him and he was rehomed with the person I adoped him off. She couldnt keep him anymore due to the fact he was aggressive towards her male dog (he got on with the bitch she also owned ok) he is also food obsessed/aggressive...this worries me somewhat! he is pretty respectful of you eating near him..he likes to know what youve got and sometimes sits looking at you begging (not whining thank god!) and sometimes he will leave you alone which is encouraging...His previous owner said you cant go near him when he eats as he growls but I have stood next to him while eating and he seems ok. I am reluctant to try and take it off him though!!! he is a thief and food must be kept out of reach-although lastnight he was looking like he was going to grab a packet of biscuits but I yelled 'NO' and he left them alone..this also seems a good sign.
He isnt safe around kids or cats...I own 4 ferrets and im scared of what might happen if the were to meet...if he hates cats will he hate ferrets too?!
He pulls on the lead too..this might be a staffy trait im not sure?

other than that he is a cuddly, loving, comical character and seems to love and trust us already..hes settling into our routine quickly.

I grew up with dogs but havent owned one myself for a long time, im hoping to meet people on here that can give me some advice with him and hopefully he wont have to be re-homed or put to sleep due to his behavior. I want this home to be his forever home as hes had such a poor start!
