So in this house we've got 5 dogs.
1 staffy - male 1 Alsatian/Beagle - female. 3 Alsatian/Beagle/Staffy - 1 female, 2 male. 1 male and 1 female are 10 week old puppies and one is just over a year old. Now here's the problem. My boyfriends parents have said we can have the female puppy so that our dog (the one just over a year old) has some company when we move house. We're in the middle of training her and understand that she needs to chew and bite things in order to learn to control her jaw. My boyfriends 11 year old brother, however doesn't. We've told him to stop smacking her across the nose as we've been told it can cause fear in her and encourange aggression. All we've been doing when she bites us is say "ack! no bite!". She always stops and transfers her biting onto a toy or plays with the other puppy. So here is what I'm asking; A) Does smacking her on the nose encourage aggression and fear? B) if it does, does anybody know any where I can find an article to get his brother to read to stop him smacking her? We've tried telling him and explaining it to him and that we don't want her to be trained like that but as far as he is concerned she's the families puppy until we move out. His parents have told him that she is ours and he said she's not. We're at the end of our tempers now and my boyfriends has said he's going to start smacking his brother on the nose if he carries on doing it to the pup.......something I'm trying to avoid happening :S Please Help!!!! |
