Hi i also recently got a new puppy (was 11 weeks old on tuesday) we were told to keep him on tinned dog food as thats what he was given originaly, i think this was mainly down to him being taken into a new home and just keeping some things familiar for him, but have started to mix with a small handfull of dried food as well this week (also advice from the breeder) and slowly move him onto just driy food eventually. as for the water its really important for puppies to have water a lot as they can get dehidrated very quickly, and yes the amount of weeing is the same for us, we've been trying to teach him to go outside by giving him a small cat biscuit when ever he goes outside and he is definatly learning, he now whines and runs to the back door (not always making it) when he needs to go, also we found it best to let him stay outside for around 10 mins after eating as he poos straight away. but as they're only puppies they have very small bladders and cant hold it long.
as for the ammount of food we were advised to give him 1/4 of a tin 4 times a day for the first week then a bit less tined food and substitute for dried food, after a 4 weeks keep the amount of food the same but split into 3 meals instead of 4.
hope this is some help, but i am new to having a puppy like yourself, so might not be 100% right.
