Confused 5 1/2 Month old, GSD.

Hi, we have recently purchased a 5 1/2 month GSD pup, from a GSD breeder. We got him on Sat 7th Nov. He was nervous as we left his previous home, which he had been in since he's been born (was kept back to show, but not made what the breeder wanted ) so he came home with us to a family home. Saturday night he kind of stayed in one place all night, Sunday he seemed to be really nervous of both myself and my husband, and that's where we are at now, and I'm baffled! He didn't live with children at the breeders home (they did have a grand-daughter who came to visit though)
Basically he is pining (sp?) for the kids when they are at school/nursery, and won't come near myself or my husband and if we attempt to go to him, he wee's
We have NEVER pushed ourselves on to him, and certainly know he needs more time to settle in, as he's only known, 2 adults and other gsd's since being a baby.
What we're doing is ignoring him, making no eye contact, and just leaving it up to him to come to us, are we doing right?

He's a lovely, big boy, but very nervous of other adults. Hope someone can help
I am also hoping to start socialisation classes with him, just awaiting trainers getting back to us.
Thanks.

Well after all that typing yesterday, it was a waste of time, lol! Last night, when the kids had gone to bed, Dexi started to whine a little, and laid down in his own corner. After a couple of hours, he got up and made his way across to us had a fuss etc, and laid down at my hubby's feet.
This morning his tail was going like the clappers, when we came down, and he seems to be settling in well up to now. I think it was just a case of it all being so new to him, he just needed to give his-self time to relax and get to know us

So glad to hear it Fanatic, it's such a relief when a problem like this goes well.

I definitely think you did the right thing by keeping your distance and not trying to hard with him. It was obviously the right thing to do to keep your pup feeling safe and happy

Maybe someone else will be able to read this in the future for some support when the same happens to them now!

Hi Terry, thank you for your reply. I'm glad to hear we've done the right thing, and its certainly paying off We have a conservatory on the back of our house, and he saw my reflection through it earlier this evening, and started barking, so think he's making his-self known, lol!!
