Default Jumping up at patio door.

Hi, I'v had my 6 month old for 3 days now and every time I let him into the yard to go toilet he will turn strait around and jump up at the glass patio door trying to bite the door handle and keeps landing on his back and head and so I'm quite worried he will do some harm to himself. I quickly figured out that he doesn't like being out in the yard alone so have been resorting to getting my coat and shoes on to go stand in the yard with him for 15mins as he won't go strait away waiting for him to do his business and not every time is successful. He has peed in the house a few times as he gives me no indication that he needs to toilet so I'm finding my self gettin my coat and shoes on every time he wonders off. I would just leave the door open for him to go in and out as he pleases but it's way to cold for that.

I was thinking of buying a tethering post but felt like this would make him feel like it would make him hate the yard even more.

It's probably a case of standing with him till he's comfortable with the yard on his own but thought I'd ask just in case It's a start of something bad I can nip in the bud.

Any advice would be awesome..

Thanks

Raffa

Hi, welcome.

Is he from a rescue shelter, or is it a "I just had a baby..." sort of thing? It doesn't really matter, but if he's gone from his first owner straight to you, you'll probably be able to call and ask some questions about him.

You will just have to stand with him. You shouldn't really be leaving a puppy in the garden alone, anyway. Just remember that he's still only a baby, and he's probably still scared and settling in to your home.

Although it isn't fun standing in the garden in the snow, with a puppy that just will not pee, you did get a puppy, and it should've been expected. I actually prefer to get my puppies in the colder months, because any diseases outside will have died off, so toilet training is safer. Most people like to get puppies in the Spring, though.

Good luck with your pup!

Hey, thanks for the reply Yea he was a "just had a baby" case. So yea I thought that standing outside would be the best thing too, I'll just have to buy a thicker coat lol. Thanks again
