Dog Tumor (causing seizures) Symptoms

1. Mostly in older dogs.

2. Almost always causes grand mal seizures if any.

3. Other symptoms vary depending on where the tumor is situated in the brain.

What Causes Dog Tumor (causing seizures)?

The cause for seizures in dogs with tumors is much the same as other conditions with seizure symptoms; this is because of abnormal brain activity in the dog which then triggers a seizure as a defence mechanism to correct the problem in the brain, after the seizure stops the brain has effectively been 'reset' to its normal state and the dog may seem unaffected and normal again.

In the case of this condition it is the tumor within the brain that is causing it to malfunction or misbehave.

What Your Vet May Say or Do

A vet presented with the symptoms above will usually be able to guess that a brain tumor may be the cause of the seizures and will arrange a brain scan to confirm their belief.

After this has been confirmed the owners will be advised, and given a oncologist (tumor specialist) if they wish to try radiation therapy to rid of the tumor and stop the seizures but often the tumor is untreatable and radiation therapy will have no effect.
