Care
Field Spaniels should be brushed and combed about twice a week. Irregular hair should be cut away every few months. It is also important to make sure that their ears are kept clean. For show dogs, you would probably have to visit a qualified groomer about four times a year. Lifeless hair is removed by plucking. The hair on the ears, the legs and the neck should also be thinned out from time to time. For more detailed info, take a look at the Field Spaniel Grooming page.
Training
The Field Spaniel requires early socialization to prevent them from becoming overly shy. This is also to prevent dog aggression later in their lives. These dogs love to be given tasks to perform. They tend to learn very quickly, but they also possess a very sensitive nature. They will not respond well at all to a rough approach when being trained. Field Spaniels need a firm but also a loving method of training. They also excel in tracking, hunting and retrieving duties.
