History

The French bulldog has its origin in England, and was developed as a miniature version of the English bulldog. During the 1860's, it is said that some French dog breeders have imported some of these small Bulldogs from Great Britain. They were then bred with French Terriers. After this breed of dogs were then brought back to England for show – many people made a big upheaval about the specific name of French bulldog.

Characteristics

French bulldogs have very good natures. This makes them wonderful family pets. These dogs tend to be very good-humoured – but some of the males can be quite hostile at times. French bulldogs do get along with most other dogs and animal, and these dogs are also very good with children.

Temperament

The French bulldog is a very bright and clever dog. They are real live wires and love to play. These dogs are also very affectionate, which makes them fit in well with their families. They love to be involved in all the family activities, and play with them. French bulldogs are very loyal dogs, and love to socialize. These dogs are relatively small, but their big personalities make up for their size in many ways. The French bulldog is a very sensitive dog, but they have a wilful streak in them from time to time. Because of the gentle personality that these dogs have, they are ideal for inexperienced owners.

Care

These dogs are not heavy shedders. Their grooming requirements are also minimal. It is recommended that they are brushed with a rubber brush from time to time, and this will in return remove the dead hair from their coats. Potential owners should be aware that French bulldogs tend to drool a lot, and their mouths should be kept. These dogs should only be bathed when it is deemed necessary. Training

French bulldog can be quite stubborn when it comes to training, and therefore you would have to be consistent in your training with them. Although these dogs are strongly built, they will not act positively towards rough training methods. It is advised that they are handled in a patient way. These dogs can do very well in training if they are handled correctly.
