History
It is documented that the German wirehaired pointer has it origin in Germany during the 20th century. They were developed from crosses of the German pointer that were done with many other breeds. Not everyone agrees on this, but it is said that they have connection with the Wirehaired Griffon, Poodle-Pointer mixes, Foxhounds and Bloodhounds. German Wirehaired Pointers responds very positively toward the needs to the hunters that they assist.
Characteristics
German Wirehaired Pointers are dignified and very unique in the way that they look. These dogs are very resourceful, and also very sturdy. German Wirehaired Pointers are very alert, and they are also very loyal and trustworthy dogs. Many people love their caring, but also energetic expressions.
Temperament
This breed is very fond of human interaction. They will give a lot of affection, love and devotion to their owners and families. It is important that you have enough time to commit to these dogs; otherwise they will not be ideal for your family. German Wirehaired Pointers are very even tempered. These dogs are also very bright, clever and able dogs. Because they have so much energy, it is important that they are given enough exercise. This breed is very fond of playing. It is advised that their protective owners have some experience in dog ownership, as these dogs can be quite independent and also stubborn.
Care
German Wirehaired Pointers do not shed excessively, but it is recommended that they are brushed about two times a week. Their coats can also be thinned out during certain seasons of the year. Training
It is important that these dogs are brought into contact with other animals and humans from an early age onwards. Although they tend to be obstinate and very willful at times, they are still very keen on pleasing their owners. Obedience training for these dogs should be done in a very firm manner. German Wirehaired Pointers do extremely well in retrieving, tracking and hunting activities.
