History

The Golden Retriever has its origin in the region of the British Isles. It is believed that they came about from crosses between yellow Flat-Coated Retrievers, light-coated Tweed Water Spaniels, other spaniels, setters and even the Newfoundland and even maybe the Bloodhound. Initially these dogs were first presented as a Golden Flat-Coat. The Golden Flat-Coat is one of the leading family companion dogs in the world today. The Golden Retrievers are also wonderful bird dogs - both land and in the water. These dogs have excellent noses. Apart from hunting and tracking, they are also being used for narcotics detection. Seeing that these dogs are eager to please their owners, and love to bestow affection on their owners - they make wonderful guide dogs for the blind.

Characteristics

Golden Retrievers are beautiful, but also lively dogs. This breed is the leading family dog in the world today. They are strong dogs, and also very well balanced.
