History
Kerry Blue Terriers are best known as the national dog of the Republic of Ireland. The exact origin of these terriers is unknown, but is known that they were used as very versatile dogs during the 19th century in Ireland. Kerry Blue Terriers have been used for things such as hunting, herding, fighting and guarding in the past. Currently they are mostly used as show dogs and pets for the family.
Characteristics
Kerry Blue Terriers have a very stubborn streak – but they love a challenge. They are very obedient dogs, but it is important to keep their training regimes varied as they get bored fairly easy. These dogs love to play rough, and should therefore be watched around children and other pets that are smaller. In general these dogs are very friendly toward strangers.
Temperament
This breed is very adorable and sociable dogs – they are also very bright and passionate. They are very fond of playing, and love to spend time with their families. If you don’t have enough time to devote to a pet, this dog will not be the right choice for you. Kerry Blue Terriers are good family pets, but are usually recommended to those with some previous experience of dog ownership. Care
These dogs have relatively high grooming requirements – so there will be lots of work involved to keep the curly coats of these dogs in a presentable condition. Kerry Blue Terriers requires combing and brushing on a weekly basis. Their beards should also be brushed and kept clean for hygienic reasons. The coats of the Kerry Blue Terriers will have to be clipped in order to keep it trimmed. Also check the ears of the dogs to make sure that they are dry and clean.
