History
The Leonberger has its origin in Germany where it was first bred in 1846 by a guy with the name of Heinrich Essing. These dogs came about as a crossing between the St. Bernard, the Great Pyreness and the Newfoundland. These dogs were almost extinct at the end of World War Two - but some of these dogs were gathered by the Germans and the breed reestablished. These dogs are used in search and rescue in Germany, and also to guard livestock and in tracking.
Characteristics
The Leonberger is a very calm, self-assured and level-headed dog. These dogs are very loyal and clever, and they learn very quickly. This is also a very good watchdog, and they will make you aware of strangers.
Temperament
Leonbergers are very energetic dogs that will show lots of affection to its families. These dogs are very loving and dedicated and also very steady and peaceful. Care
