History

Tibetan Apsos have a history that goes as far back as two thousand years ago. These dogs were bred in Tibet by holy men and noble people to protect the palaces, the monasteries and the temples in the city of Lhasa. It was impossible to buy these dogs, but they were given as gifts by the Dalai Lama to various important people.

Characteristics

Lhasa Apsos are tough and energetic dogs. They tend to be cautious around strangers. These dogs radiate dignity, and can also be very funny. Lhasa Apsos are thought of as some of the most loving dogs there is. One of their most important functions is to be a companion.

Temperament

Lhasas are one of strongest and most wilful dogs of all the small dogs there is today. The Lhasa is very clever dog, and also come across with a lot of confidence. Lhasa Apsos are noble dogs, but they can also be very energetic and playful. They do have a tendency to be jealous of other dogs and they also do not do very well around children. It is important to give these dogs lots of obedience training and socialisation when they are young. The Lhasas very enjoyable dogs and they love their families.

Care

The Lhasa Apsos grooming requirements are quite high. Their coats need to be brushed daily in order to keep it in a good condition. These dogs also require a bath once a week. The hair around their bottoms should also be kept short in order to promote hygiene. Also be sure to check their ears, and make sure that they are dry and clean. Training

Lhasa Apsos have a very stubborn attitude, and may therefore be difficult to housetrain. Crate training is recommended for this breed. When it comes to training, Lhasa Apsos should be trained in a firm manner. They also need commands that are consistent. These dogs will try and dominate if they are not trained properly as to who is the boss.
