History

Lundehunds are very rare dogs, and they are also members of the Spitz dog family. These dogs have their origin in Norway. This breed has been used for many centuries as hunting dogs – but during the 1800s the puffins they used to hunt became a protected species and these dogs were no longer of any use to the farmers. After the Second World War these dogs were saved from near extinction by two Norwegians.

Characteristics

The Lundehund is very strong minded, and can be quite obstinate at times. They do however possess a great sense of humor, and they are also very happy. These dogs can also be very naughty from time to time – but at the same time they are very clever and sly. This is a breed that will try to dominate, but they will not bark very often.

Temperament

The Lundehund is a very friendly dog that is also very fond of people. These dogs are not hostile, and like to cuddle with their owners or with other dogs. This breed is also very fond of playing, and they are also very inquisitive. Lundehunds are very clever dogs that are also very supple. The Lundehund has very exclusive features that make them very good hunting dogs. This is a dog that can be quite obstinate at times, and will try to manipulate and dominate of given the chance. It is therefore important to be consistent with this breed, and to show them that you mean what you are saying.

Care

Lundehunds are fairly low maintenance dogs and they are also very easy to take care of when it comes to grooming. They should be combed and brushed on a regular basis with a firm hair brush. These dogs should only be bathed when it is deemed necessary. It is important to know that these are heavy shedding dogs. For more detailed info, take a look at the Lundehund Grooming page.

Training

It is important that the training of these dogs are varied as much as possible, otherwise they will become bored. If the same exercises are repeated all the time, they will loose interest fairly quickly. It is also very important to be consistent when it comes to training the Lundehund.
