History
The Manchester terrier has its origin from England. They were known as the Black and Tan Terrier at some stage. These dogs enjoy a very long history that dates back several hundred years ago. Manchester Terriers were originally developed as rat catcher, and to hunt pests. Today these dogs have become very popular as family companions and pets.
Characteristics
Manchester Terriers are very compact, lively and relatively small dogs. They are very watchful and also have a lot of athletic availability. These terriers are quite energetic, but also very bright. They are very graceful and are always eager. Manchester Terriers have very good manners, and are very approachable.
Temperament
The Manchester terrier is a very curious and enthusiastic dog. They are very clever dogs and they also learn fairly quickly. They possess plenty of stamina, and this helps a lot when it comes to training. Because of their autonomous streak, they are best suited to owners that have some previous experience of dog ownership. Some of these dogs can also be very jealous of their food and belongings. The Manchester terrier is a very energetic dog, and they come with lots of energy and therefore need extra exercise. Because they are so inquisitive and like to chase things, they should preferably be kept on a leash when leaving their yards. These dogs will suit families that have enough time to devote to their pets, as these dogs love interaction and lots of attention.
Care
The grooming requirements for the Manchester terrier are fairly low. Occasional brushing and wiping them down with a damp cloth will help to keep their coats in a good and shiny condition. These dogs are very low shedders, and will only shed on a seasonal basis. So these dogs might be fine for someone suffering from allergies. Training
It is important to have sufficient socialisation and obedience training for the Manchester terrier when they are still young. Manchester Terriers are very quick to learn, and they are very keen to please their owners. These dogs will not respond positively to rough training methods. They will perform at their best with firm and consistent training methods. Respect and patience are also very important factors to consider when training these dogs.
