History

The Miniature Bull Terrier crossed between the Bulldog and the Old English Terrier. They also have some Spanish Pointer in their bloodline. The Miniature Bull Terrier was developed around the 1830s to attack bulls in combat. During the 1950s they were replaced by White Cavalier. Since then, these dogs have been used for many other things. Miniature Bull Terriers have been used as guard dogs, herders and watchdogs in the past – they tend to perform very well in all of these tasks.

Characteristics

The Miniature Bull Terrier tends to have a very hot tempered personality, and they can be quite lively at times. This breed is very protective of their owners and territory – projecting a brave image. The Miniature Bull Terrier should be trained by an experienced trainer, and they should always have a dominant owners otherwise these dogs will try and take control.

Temperament

Miniature Bull Terriers are energetic, with a very even balanced temperament. These dogs can be very funny, and they thrive on the attention of the families they belong to. It is important that the Miniature Bull Terrier gets enough attention as they can become very destructive when left alone for too long. These dogs are therefore not suited to people that don’t have enough time to devote to them. This is a very good family dog, and the some of the qualities they have make them better suited to those with some previous dog ownership experience. Some Miniature Bull Terriers have a tendency to be a bit aggressive or shy, where others can try to dominate.

Care

This breed has very low grooming requirements. They can be brushed on occasion, and it is also recommended that they are wiped down with a damp cloth once in a while to make sure their coats are kept in a good condition. Training

The Miniature Bull Terrier can prove to be fairly difficult to train. The Miniature Bull Terrier is a very wilful dog, and they also have a very dominant streak. Their trainers must be very consistent and firm in their training. Miniature Bull Terriers are quite obstinate, and obedience classes are recommended for these dogs in order to make training a little easier.
