History

Norwegian Buhunds are a specific dog breed, and to be more specific, a member of the spitz family. The Norwegian Buhund is the national dog of Norway. This breed has a close relation to the Icelandic Sheepdog and the Jämthund. The dogs name has a Norwegian meaning as in Norwegian, hund means dog and bu refers to the homestead and the livestock.

Characteristics

Norwegian Buhunds are very friendly dogs that are very fond of playing. They get along very well with other people and animals. This breed is very watchful and lively, and they also learn very quickly. They are full of energy, and love to be involved in sports.

Temperament

The Norwegian Buhund is very watchful, happy and energetic. This breed is also tireless and very clever. They love to show affection toward their owners and families. This breed should be stimulated in a mental and physical manner - training of these dogs should be done in a consistent manner as they can be quite obstinate. These dogs are natural watchdogs, and they are also very brave. The Norwegian Buhund is also a very trainable dog.

Care

These dogs are fairly low maintenance when it comes to grooming. They have a short coat, that is easy to care for and it also does not mat. The coat should be brushed on a regular basis, and extra care should be taken of them when they are shedding. These dogs do shed quite a bit on a seasonal basis. Training

The Norwegian Buhund is a very trainable breed of dogs. These dogs are very active, and they require lots of attention and love from their families. These dogs bark if they want to convey a message. The Norwegian Buhund also requires obedience training to make sure they have good manners late on. These dogs can also be very strong minded at times.
