Parson Russell Terrier Dog Breed.
Parson Russell Terrier training, care, history, temperament, and characteristics
Group: Pekingese
Weight: 14 lbs
Height: 6-9 inches
History
The Pekingese, or also called the “Lion Dog” seems to go as far back as the 9th century in China. Ownership of these dogs was restricted, and only members of the Chinese Imperial Court were allowed to own these dogs. These dogs were seen as sacred by the Chinese Tang dynasty. The Pekingese was brought back to England during 1860 after the British troops occupied the Peking Summer Palace – all of this happening during the Second Opium War.
Characteristics
The Pekingese is a small dog which is very evenly balanced. They portray a lot of distinction and a proud demeanour. They also possess a lot of bravery which suits their Chinese origin. The Pekingese is independent, and don’t show any fear. The Pekingese sees themselves as a noble dog, and therefore expects to be a companion that is pampered
Temperament
The Pekingese looks like a dog that believes firmly in their noble origin – therefore they come across as noble, majestic and confident. The Pekingese is fearless, but they also have a good temper about them. They are also not aggressive dogs at all. This breed is relatively quiet, but is not very fond of children of strangers. Pekingese needs to be socialised with other dogs, otherwise they will try to dominate in the household. The Pekingese is very difficult to train because they are so stubborn and sensitive in nature. Lots of praise and attention can however help to have a positive effect on their training.
Care
Although the Pekingese has a gorgeous and dense coat, the grooming needs are not very high for this breed. Their coats should be brushed twice a week, but will need to be increased when they shed more from time to time. The Pekingese is a fairly high shedding dog, and is therefore not the best dog for someone with allergy problems. Their hair around their bottoms should be kept short, and their ears should also be kept clean and dry to reduce any chances of infection. Training
The Pekingese may be difficult to train, because of their stubborn nature. Therefore the create method is recommended for housebreaking. They will not react positively to heavy handed or rough training methods. They will do best with gentle and consistent guidance. The Pekingese will require short sessions of basic obedience training and socialization.
