History
It is believed that the Corgi may have descended from Swedish Vallhunds which were brought to Wales by some Vikings in the 800's. The name Corgi is copied from the Celtic word for dog. The Pembroke Welsh corgi specifically was developed in Pembrokeshire, Wales. These dogs were used to drive cattle by nipping at their heels, and also by barking. The fact that they have a very low stature helps them to roll out of the way. Corgis still uses this when chasing one another around. It is well known that a Pembroke Welsh corgi is a favourite breed of Queen Elizabeth II.
Characteristics
The Pembroke Welsh corgi is a tough little dog, with a very high intelligence. They are also very devoted and protective dogs. Corgis are extremely active and energetic dogs. These dogs do very well in guarding, and are also very good obedience and show dogs. Pembroke Welsch Corgis are cautious of strangers, and should be socialised well when they are still young.
Temperament
Pembroke Welsch Corgis are highly intelligent dogs and they are very quick to learn. These dogs are very dependable, and very easy to train as well. This breed are very well suited to people who have no experience in dog ownership, and they also makes wonderful companions and family dogs. Pembrokes are very alert, and will make an alarm if anything is wrong. These dogs are very good watchdogs, but can bark excessively because of this. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi adores the companionship and love of their families.
Care
Pembroke Welsch Corgis have soft, medium-length coats that are water resistant. These coats are very easy to take care off. It can be combed and brushed with a firm hair brush. These dogs should only take a bath when really necessary. Pembroke Welsch Corgis shed their coats twice during the course of the year. Training
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are very warm and affectionate dogs, and tend to get along well with children. They will probably chase strange cats and dogs. Toward strangers, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi may be very distrustful. This adds to the abilities that they have as a watchdog. With quest these dogs tend to be very civil and grand. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi requires enough exercise, and enjoys playing games with their families. Owners need to be assertive toward these dogs, as they can be very stubborn.
